The Heart Nebula

The Heart Nebula, IC 1805, is located about 7,500 light years away from Earth in the Perseus arm of the Galaxy in the northern hemisphere constellation of Cassiopeia.

Nebulae are purely dusty and gaseous clouds. The beautiful Heart Nebula gained its name from its red glow and evocative shape.

An Emission Nebula, its bright red glow comes from light emitted from the effect of ionised hydrogen gas which has been excited by the stellar wind of a small group of stars near its centre.
